A Belated Mother's Day Blog

The kids & I wanted to do something special for their Mamaw this Mother's Day. After a battle with pancreatic cancer (which she WON), we realize in our hearts how blessed we are to have her here today!

Mom deserves something made with little hands...

We did create a hanging basket for her, but we wanted to do more to tell her we love her! So we climbed onto Pinterest and four hours later (not really, but dang it's addicting?!?) we decided on making a hanging bird feeder.

We went through several prototypes and learned the HARD WAY that no waste bird seed does NOT work. In fact, it falls apart the next day.

You have to get the basic bird seed. So here are your ingredients: 1) 2 cups basic bird seed 2) one gelatin packet (like you use to make jam) and 3) 8 tablespoons very hot water. That's it.

If you know me, you know I like easy peasy that looks like it was really difficult. Well this sure does!

Mix all ingredients together and (here's where you have so many options) spoon into an A) doughnut pan or mini bundt pans 2) soap mold or 3) cookie cutter on wax paper. Let dry (we dried ours overnight). Decorate with pretty ribbon or string.

You can put them in baggies for an even more pulled together look.

Time: 10 minutes
Cost: under $1 per bird feeder
Smile on Mamaw's face: Priceless!
